Happy SAD!

February 14th, 2010

errr.... yeah :D

Happy SAD!

or Singles Awareness Day!

I find it a much more interesting alternative to Valentine's Day.

Honestly, I think Valentine's Day is the most wasteful, overhyped, and commercialized holiday (next to Christmas of course).

It really has no meaning, other than spending half your paycheck on teeth-rotting chocolates and valentine's that last 5 hours or less.

It's not that I hate love. But I don't think you should be proclaiming your love on this one day.

SHOVE IT CORPORATE AMERICA! I WON'T HAND YOU MY HARD EARNED CASH FOR ONE DAY!

....
Okay, rant-over ;D

I basically spent the day indoors, on the computer (finishing up Section 3 of drivers ed) and reading "No god but God" by Reza Aslan.

I've had the book for nearly a month now, and I try to read it whenever I can. It's extremely insightful and eye-opening.
It's like everything I was taught about the history of Islam wasn't quite clear, or specific.

-the bulk of my Islamic history lessons did come from Sunday school... which didn't end well, lol-

It's great ^_^ I bookmarked many pages, and will probably do some posts on some topics.

I recommend the book (which I first heard of on LK's blog, Ink Blots on Blue Abayas)

Peace out :)

It seems everyone is reading this book lately! It's the second next on my list of books to buy after a biography of Muhammad. I'm looking forward to it.

Haha, I have the exact same outlook. All the blokes at my hubby's work think he's the luckiest guy ever cos we never do anything on Valentine's Day! Anyways, check this out - it's hilarious! It's for all the single people on Valentine's Day >_< http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXVLlUTHdA4

salamo aleikom wr wb

it's great to be a Muslim, especially because those festivals are forbidden to celebrate in Islam:

Qur'an:

“And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers [Aal ‘Imraan 3:85]

And the Prophet (sws) told us that groups of his ummah would follow the enemies of Allah in some of their rituals and customs, as it says in the hadith of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (raw), who narrated that the Prophet (sws) said: “You will certainly follow the ways of those who came before you, span by span, cubit by cubit, until even if they were to enter a lizard’s hole, you would follow them.” We said, “O Messenger of Allah, (do you mean) the Jews and Christians?” He said, “Who else?!”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari in al-I’tisaam bi’l-Kitaab wa’l-Sunnah, Baab Qawl al-Nabi (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) La tattabi’unna Sanan man kaana qablakum, 8/151; and by Muslim in Kitaab al-‘Ilm, Baab Ittibaa’ Sanan al-Yahood wa’l-Nasaara, 4/2054)

only Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha were made lawful by Allah (swt) and those are the only ones without any silly stories behind like Santa Claus. Islam is pure and simple and it's free from any polytheistic belief. alhamdulilah.

Salam

I think this is my first time visiting since I hadn't followed you before. The first post I'm reading and I think you've written about Happy Singles Awareness Day in a very positive and funny way. MashaAllah, a very nice blog.
